Jewellery Guide and Care

Jewellery Guide and Care – Make your jewellery the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night.

Always remove jewellery at bedtime, sleeping with jewellery on puts a lot of stress on chains, links, clasps, and stone settings

All jewellery including precious jewellery will naturally tarnish and look dull if proper care has not been taken. Always protect your jewellery from knocks, abrasives, chemicals, water and too much direct sunlight to minimise these effects.

Store jewellery separately in a tarnish – resistant jewellery box or pouch and keep away from abrasive surfaces

Keep your jewellery out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, tarnishing, discolouration

Handle with care: Avoid knocking  pearls, gemstone, glass and shell against hard surfaces as this could damage them Book your jewellery in for an annual service check with a professional to ensure the clasps, mountings and soldered details are secure

Remove jewellery prior to swimming, bathing and other sporting activities

Avoid contact with make-up,creams,perfume and lotions

Gemstones are all on a different hardness scale. If you drop your gemstone on tiles, there is a good chance it will break. Another thing to be careful of is gemstones on longer necklaces that can swing forward and hit benches or tables

General Jewellery Cleaning

Using a soft, lint free cloth is an effective way to keep your jewellery looking shiny and lustrous. Do not use tissues, paper or paper towels to clean metal as they can cause scratching
